Steen School would like to congratulate the October Staff Member of the Month, Ms. Lesly Peralta. Ms. Peralta has been a paraprofessional here at Steen for the past two school years and has been a wonderful resource to our students and their families as well as our staff. Ms. Peralta is always up for any challenge. She is flexible and can adapt her skills as an educator to all of the different classrooms she has worked in. She maintains excellent rapport with the students she works with and helps to provide them with the supports they need so they can be successful. Ms. Peralta also works with our Steen Families and helps create an inclusive environment by translating to assist with the very important home-school connection. Ms. Peralta is also a graduate of Steen School and Bogota High School. At night, she attends college classes in pursuit of her teaching degree. Congratulations Ms. Peralta! Well deserved!

Our 4th and 5th grade classrooms had a guest speaker this month (from The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources: A Program of Children’s Aid and Family Services). This was an anti-bullying presentation that taught students the difference between bullying and conflict, what to do in both situations, and how important it is to show respect and make better choices!

It was a beautiful day for a field trip! Our preschool students had a blast today at Abma's Farm picking pumpkins, riding the hayride, and experiencing the joys of autumn!

Our Steen Garden is one of the most beautiful places in our school! Our second graders enjoyed planting bulbs in the garden. We can't wait to see what they grow into!

Kindergarten students in Ms. Skrnich's class are 'springing' into math with our Spring Math program. Students took turns peer coaching and counting to ten while engaging in a play-based activity. So much fun!

It was a beautiful day to go pumpkin picking! Our kindergarteners had a blast at Demarest Farms today picking pumpkins, riding the hayride, visiting the petting zoo, and playing on the fun playgrounds. Did we mention those scrumptious donuts and cider?
