Last week, our students got to experience the Box Out Bullying Assembly! Students learned important strategies to help make our school a bully-free zone in a fun and interactive way! Shoutout to our counselor Ms. Pedro for organizing!

Our 5th Grade Student Council Giving Tree Initiative has concluded! We set out with a goal to collect a total of 200 toys, books, and gift cards for families within our community. Each day, our students would walk by the tree wanting to understand the purpose of the collection. After a presentation to the entire school and several announcements from our Student Council Members, our students set out on a mission to give back to our community. They would eagerly pass and check the progress meter in the hallway to see if the total number of items was closer to our goal. Our students were filled with joy stacking toys within the boxes and watching them pile up. The empathy from our students was just truly amazing and heart-warming. The outpouring from our PTO and local businesses made our initiative even more exciting! So did we meet our goal as a school and collect 200 gifts? No...WE COLLECTED 365 GIFTS!!!! We surpassed our goal and we could not be more excited! A special thank you to our students and their families for contributing to this important endeavor. Also, a great big thank you to everyone else within our community that made this HUGE collection possible:

Our PreK, K, & 1st Grade students had some special visitors today! They were able to meet & pet therapy dogs! These furry friends sure knew how to put a smile on our students' faces! Thanks so much for the memorable experience

Our Giving Tree is really growing! We have 64 donations so far! Let's keep it going! The class with the most donations will receive an ice pop party from our Student Council! Let's reach our goal of 200 toys! Last day to donate is Fri. 12/13.

Steen School would like to congratulate November's Staff Member of the Month. Mrs. Holly Gioiosa! Ms. Holly is one of our preschool teachers. Ms. Holly has been a PreK teacher over 20 years. She began teaching in Bogota in 2019 when Universal PreK first opened in Bogota. She is Steen's first preschool teacher! Ms. Holly is a teacher who embodies patience, positivity, and dedication to our family. She is known for coming to school each day with a smile, creating a structured and nurturing environment for some of our youngest learners, and going above and beyond to ensure every student reaches their full potential. Her young students adore her because of the dedication and care she shows them each day. She has taught us all the value of learning through play and constantly works with other grade levels for collaborative efforts. Ms. Holly is a Bogota resident herself and both of her children went through the Bogota school system. She says teaching is her passion and because of that, she has the best job in the world! In her free time, Ms. Holly enjoys spending time with her family and watching all types of sports. Gymnastics and volleyball are especially her favorites. Congratulations Ms. Holly! Well deserved!

Lots of Thanksgiving fun today! Our Pre-K kicked off the day with their Turkey Shuffle Dance while Ms. Mawer's 5th graders studied parade history & created their own parade balloons. They even paraded around the school!

In Media class, third graders listened to the story "Balloons over Broadway." They then practiced computer programming with our new Sphero Indi robots by planning their own parade routes for their parade balloons.
