In 7th Grade ELA, students worked through the Article of the Week routine for the third time. Each week, students read, analyze and write about a nonfiction article using what they have learned about POWeR cycles. This week's article, "Laughter is the Best Medicine", discusses the physical, cognitive and social-emotional benefits of laughter. This week, students also began characterizing the greasers from our class novel study, The Outsiders. In small groups, students were tasked with describing assigned characters using evidence from Chapter 1 of the text. Students paid particular attention to physical description (how characters appear externally) and character descriptions (how characters feel/act/behave).

Over the past two weeks in 7th grade ELA, students have learned all about POWER cycles. This is the acronym we use for the writing process: Plan, Organize, Write, Edit, Revise. Pictured below are student partnerships examining student writing samples. They had to score the written piece using a rubric and provide revision and editing goals based on specific criteria.
