Principal

Hello!

My name is Dr. Jeannie Paz, and I am the proud Principal of Bogota Jr./Sr. High School. I have always been interested in the origins of civilizations, the histories of people and the stories that helped to explain their current conditions and grand accomplishments. As an undergraduate in WPU, I double majored in African studies and in history with a concentration in U.S. history. I also earned my MA in history from Rutgers. I completed my MA in teaching secondary social studies at FDU and my MA in Educational Leadership at NJCU. Finally, I earned my Ed.D. In curriculum, instruction and leadership from Northeastern University. I started my educational career as a high school social studies teacher in Paterson in 2008. As an educator, I understood that true learning occurred when students were able to learn from a curricula they could relate to. I believe that integrating multicultural education in my daily instruction was key to higher student achievement; I believe this to be especially critical for urban youth because it helped to reaffirm the importance of their cultural identities. I also understand the power of developing strong and positive relationships with students and families. I became a School Administrator to be an effective change agent within education. I am a strong advocate of multicultural education and culturally responsive pedagogy. I believe that only through inclusive learning experiences can all youth receive the quality education all children deserve.

As a school leader, my educational philosophy involves promoting a school and classroom culture that is inclusive, and celebrates diversity & cultural pluralism. As a supporter of a democratic learning community in the classroom and a Multicultural researcher, I always prioritize student needs and wellness when considering any school action or decision. I also reflect on how those decisions will influence my school community and the social-emotional health of my students and staff.

My ultimate goal is to help nurture students and cultivate school leaders that mirror the democratic society we desire. It is my belief that we accomplish this through culturally responsive teaching where powerful instruction results in improved academic achievement and helps to develop young people that will go on to lead successful lives and careers, but also advocate for a more just and equitable society. We need educators and future leaders that are empathetic, passionate, fearless, but above all, serious about preparing the next generation to overcome the challenges they will face in their future, triumph in all of their endeavors, and thrive in their chosen path of life.

Warm regards,
Dr. Jeannie Paz
