Welcome to Bogota Athletic Training

PIcture

Ms. Monika Young, MS, LAT, ATC

Ms. Monika officially joined the Bogota Athletics staff in August 2018. However, Ms. Monika is not a new face on the Bogota sidelines. She served as the VERY FIRST athletic trainer for over a year, in conjunction with JAG Physical Therapy and the New York Giants Grant, in the Fall 2015- Winter 2017 seasons. During that time, Ms. Monika was proud to witness Bogota Lady Bucs win TWO Group 1 State and Sectional Championships (2015 & 2016), Boys Cross Country Group 1 State Titles, and Boy Basketball Sectional Champions (2016).

Ms. Monika graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of Maryland in 2009. Following completion of her master's degree in athletic training from Seton Hall University in 2014, Ms. Monika worked at JAG Phyical Therapy in Union, NJ. In addition to her clinical responsibilities at JAG, Ms. Monika worked per diem for New York Red Bulls Academy and Performance Physical Therpay and Sports Performance. In 2015, JAG coupled with the New York Giants Grant to supply an athletic trainer in every high school, which led to Ms. Monika's position at Bogota Jr./Sr. High School. Ms. Monika took a brief hiatus from Bogota in 2017 to join the athletic training staff at Temple University in Philadelphia until the summer of 2018. While at Temple, Ms. Monika primarily worked with the women's soccer team (Hey TUWS!).

Ms. Monika returns to continue her reign as Bogota's [FIRST] Athletic Trainer. She is very delighted to be back and hopes to help Bogota athletes exceed beyond their wildest expectation and aspirations on and off of the playing field.

Ms. Monika has been a board certified athletic trainer and State of New Jersey Athletic Trainer license since 2014..

"A lot of injuries... really you can't do anything about. Injuries just happen but there are some injuries you can prevent from happening by just taking care of your body; eating right, stretching right, lifting right... taking care of your body. Just being healthy. And then there's injuries you just can't do anything about, but once you encounter an injury it's really about how you rehab and how mentally you have to stay strong. Knowing that you have the chance to do the rehab right and get your body back to where it needs to be. So that's the one thing you really got to learn. REHAB IS A BIG PART OF TAKING CARE OF YOUR INJURY." ~ Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng on handling injuries

There is a risk of injury for athletes participating in all sporting activities. While there is no way to prevent injuries from sports-related accidents to occur, some common sports injuries caused by straining and overuse can be prevented by doing appropriate pre- and post-sport stretching and listening to your body when it needs to rest. Some sport injuries are more severe than others. How an athlete treats and manages their injury determines their return back to the play.

AN ATHLETE SHOULD ALWAYS REPORT AN INJURY TO THEIR COACH AND/OR ATHLETIC TRAINER.
