Dear Parents/Guardians, Faculty, and Community Members:

I feel privileged and humbled to serve as the principal of E. Roy Bixby Elementary School.  I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.  I have been in the education field for over two decades, with positions ranging from the elementary level to high school teacher, Whole School Reform/Technology Facilitator and Assistant Principal.  Prior to coming to Bogota I worked for the New Jersey State Department of Education focusing on data evaluation and principal coaching.  Though this position was extremely important, my passion truly lies in being in a school building full of teachers and children.

The most important and vital part of the educational system is the students.  The only way that we can strive to impact each and every student is through us - the teachers, administrators, board members, and members of the community in Bogota.  As Henry Brooks Adams was quoted, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”  Thus, lies the truth in education.  Teachers affect the great minds of children that will one day become the future leaders of this great country.  Education is the key to success not only by following the New Jersey State Learning Standards and high marks on the NJSLA, but also by shaping character and teaching lessons on life skills.  A solid foundation and education is what will lead all students regardless of affiliation to future success in their lives as adults.  All school personnel can have an impact on the life of a child.  Educators dedicate their lives to promote the greater good of future societies.  A courageous and effective educator never stops teaching students, promotes originality, and is able to keep up-to-date with new initiatives and technologies.  Only with a solid education and knowledge of life’s experiences will each child be able to gain a perspective of the world and lead them to everlasting success in the future.  Remember - it takes a village.

Another important quality I have learned as a school administrator is to have an open-door policy.  I will be here to listen any concern whether it is from a parent, guardian, teacher, and most importantly a student.  I will be visible to all the students so that they can become comfortable in my presence and I will work hard to establish a rapport with them.  School and community unity is vital to building a positive school climate.  Our mission is to provide a safe environment and a perfect place for the foundation of education.  Children must feel safe and it is a fundamental precursor to student achievement.

Lastly, I would like to take this time to thank you, the Bogota School Community, for giving me the opportunity to serve as your principal.  It is with great honor and pride that I accept this task.  Let’s continue to make this school year one of the best and, together, pave the road for student success.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at denglese@bogotaboe.com .

    Yours in education,

    Damon J. Englese, MA. Ed.
